Cass Bridge Rehabilitation

Cass Bridge from the river

Work begins in May of 2026

Beginning in May of 2026 the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry will undertake a two-year rehabilitation of the Cass Bridge in North Dundas.

The Cass Bridge is located on Highway 31, between Winchester and Winchester Springs, and sees as many as 5,000 vehicles per day transit its span. The Cass Bridge was constructed in 1971. It spans the South Nation River and is a three‑span structure supported by prestressed concrete girders

May 15 is when shovels are expected to enter the ground on a rehabilitation project that will see a full deck removal and replacement, as well as associated repair work. Because of the size of the project the work will be split over two construction seasons.

One lane of the bridge deck replacement will take place this year, while the other lane will be rehabilitated in 2027. The end of stage 1 would see the temporary barriers and traffic lights removed from site with the roadway fully reinstated for the winter season.

The $3.6-million rehabilitation is expected to last until Nov. 13, depending on conditions throughout the summer. The end of stage 1 would see the temporary barriers and traffic lights removed from the site with the roadway fully reinstated for the winter season.

Single-lane closures will be in effect throughout the construction phase of the project. Because of the volume of traffic transitting the bridge, motorists are advised to leave extra time for their travels, or consider a different route.
