The 2026 construction season in SDG Counties will be busy and productive. Construction activities in our region will include bridge rehabilitations, road reconstruction, asphalt repaving, and cracksealing - to name just a few.
Below is a breakdown of some of the high-profile projects that will be undertaken this year. Above please find an updated map which shows the location of activities planned for 2026. The activities included on the map include culvert lining, bridges, cold-in-place recycling, hot-mix paving, microsurfacing and surface renewal.
Reconstruction
Entrance and drainage culverts along county roads continue to be replaced. These culverts have an expected service life of approximately 50 years, so the number of annual replacements is anticipated to increase over time. For 2026, staff have allocated $650,000 for this work.
Replacing or lining culverts before paving projects helps prevent new asphalt from being cut due to culvert failures. In preparation for anticipated 2027 paving projects, the Transportation Department is maintaining the current budget of $275,000 for this purpose.
Bridge Projects
Structural projects often begin one or two years in advance due to the number of approvals required and long lead times for specialized structural elements. In 2026, Transportation Staff plan to undertake two major bridge rehabilitations, along with minor repairs and design work:
- Cass Bridge Rehabilitation SDG 31- $4,100,000
- Pittston Creek Bridge Rehabilitation – Hainsville Rd/Pittston Rd. - $750,000
Roads Projects
Alexandria - County Road 34 and County Road 10 detailed design - $220,000
Special Projects
Avonmore Storm Sewer Lining - $500,000: Annual storm sewer inspections indicate the Avonmore system is nearing the end of its service life. Minor repairs were completed in 2025 to prepare for cured-in-place lining in 2026. Approximately 1,150 meters of storm sewer will be rehabilitated.
Road Resurfacing
For 15 years, SDG Counties Council has been following the recommendations in of the asset management plan for its road network. This steady approach continues to deliver positive results, as SDG Counties is well regarded as having one of the best-maintained road systems in Ontario. The budgeted 2026 work marks the final year of a four-year resurfacing program. The plan is organized by geographic area to reduce the need for multiple mobilizations, helping improve efficiency and keep costs down. In 2026, work will be focused in North Dundas and South Dundas.
