A statement from Warden Francois Landry concerning the terrible tragedy in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
"As Warden of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, I join our entire region in expressing deep sorrow and solidarity following the tragic shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Our hearts are with the families who have lost loved ones, with those who were injured, and with a community now facing a long and painful road toward healing. Moments like this remind us how abruptly violence can fracture lives, alter futures, and shake a community’s sense of safety.
Although thousands of kilometres separate SDG Counties from Tumbler Ridge, tragedy binds us in a shared humanity. When one Canadian community suffers, we all feel the weight of that loss. Today, we hold close the people of Tumbler Ridge and send them strength, compassion, and the assurance that they do not walk this difficult path alone.
We also take this moment to reflect on the values that define our own communities—kindness, respect, inclusiveness, and care for one another. Indiscriminate violence has no place in our society, and it stands in stark contrast to the love and acceptance we strive to nurture here at home. Let us continue to choose empathy over anger, connection over division, and understanding over fear.
On behalf of SDG Counties, I extend our deepest condolences and unwavering support to the residents of Tumbler Ridge. May they find comfort in the embrace of Canadians from coast to coast, and may we honour them by fostering communities grounded in peace and compassion."
