SDG COUNTIES, Ontario - The trilliums are just starting to bloom at the Summerstown Trails!
Beginning in late April/early May trilliums bloom at one of the busiest nature trails in our region. The trilliums are typically in bloom for just 10 days, so enjoy the spectacle while you can.
"In certain sections of the forest, they literally carpet the forest floor," said Jean-Pierre Tibi of the Friends of Summerstown Trails. "They’re easy to get to…just walk or bike down the main trail, and a bit past the old parking lot, you’ll start seeing them."
While it’s not illegal to pick the flower, it’s not recommended as trilliums wilt almost immediately and it will almost certainly damage and/or kill the plant.
And here’s a challenge: Try to spot the rarer pink or red trillium.
