SDG COUNTIES, Ontario - This summer, SDG Counties is proud to welcome six enthusiastic Tourism Ambassadors who will help bring the stories of the Historic SDG Jail to life.

Leila Grant, Olivia Chafe, Ariel Colligan, Brooke Guindon, Mac Eamer, and Jaziah Meade are joining the team as seasonal staff, offering visitors a warm introduction to one of the region’s most fascinating heritage sites.

Throughout the summer months, these ambassadors will serve as the first point of contact for guests exploring the Historic SDG Jail in Cornwall. Their role goes far beyond greeting visitors at the door. Each ambassador will guide tours, share the building’s rich and sometimes chilling history, and provide insights into the lives of former inmates and staff who once walked its corridors. By combining historical knowledge with engaging storytelling, they will help create memorable experiences for residents and tourists alike.

Our ambassadors play an important role in supporting local tourism while giving students hands-on experience in public engagement, heritage interpretation, and community service. This year’s team brings a diverse range of talents and interests, united by a shared passion for history and their community. As they connect with visitors from near and far, they will also serve as ambassadors for SDG Counties as a whole - highlighting local attractions, events, and hidden gems throughout the region.

The Historic SDG Jail, built in 1833, remains one of the most iconic landmarks in the area. Its preserved cells, original architecture, and compelling stories offer a glimpse into 19th-Century justice and daily life behind bars. With the support of SDG Tourism, visitors will gain a deeper appreciation for the site’s significance and its place in the region’s heritage.

“We’re excited to welcome this year’s group of Tourism Ambassadors,” said SDG Counties Tourism Supervisor Karina Belanger. “Their energy and enthusiasm will enhance the visitor experience and help showcase the importance of preserving our local history.”

Residents and visitors are encouraged to stop by the Historic SDG Jail this summer to meet the ambassadors, explore the site, and discover the stories that shaped the region. Whether it's a first visit or a return trip, there will always be something new to learn - and a friendly face ready to guide the way.
