SDG COUNTIES, Ontario - SDG Counties is proud to play a leading role in advancing regional healthcare recruitment through its partnership with the Great River Ontario Health Team (GR OHT), supporting the launch of a program focused on recruiting doctors, nurses, and other health-care professionals to fill open roles across the region.
Backed by $68,000 in funding through the Ontario Ministry of Rural Affairs, announced today by MPP Nolan Quinn, the Great River, Great Future initiative represents a significant step forward in addressing healthcare workforce challenges across the region. The funding application was submitted through SDG Counties, which will serve as the funding administrator and support the implementation of the initiative across partner communities.
“SDG Counties is grateful to receive Rural Ontario Development Program funding from the Ontario Ministry of Rural Affairs,” said Warden François Landry. “As a proud partner of the Great River Ontario Health Team and contributing member with the Great River, Great Future campaign project, we are looking forward to working with our partners to support healthcare recruitment and address the critical staffing shortages across the region.”
The Great River, Great Future campaign brings together a broad network of partners across Akwesasne, Cornwall, SDG Counties, Russell Township and parts of rural Southeast Ottawa. Through this collaboration, healthcare organizations, municipalities and community partners are working as one to attract, recruit, welcome and retain healthcare professionals.
“As we plan for a prosperous future in SDG, we must strengthen our vital services and critical infrastructure that keep our community thriving,” said Nolan Quinn, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry. “From expanding our healthcare workforce to advancing our municipalities’ water access, our government is ensuring that SDG continues to be an incredible place to live, work, and raise a family.”
The campaign was developed in response to increasing demand for healthcare services and growing recruitment challenges faced by providers across the region. Rather than competing for the same talent, partners are embracing a shared strategy that highlights the region’s strengths and connects candidates with opportunities that align with their skills, goals and lifestyles.
At the centre of the initiative is greatgivergreatfuture.ca, a dedicated recruitment website that showcases career opportunities, community profiles, relocation resources and information about living and working in the region.
In addition to the website, the campaign will include coordinated digital marketing, social media outreach, and participation in recruitment events, conferences and residency activities across Ontario, Quebec and abroad. Prospective candidates and their families will also have opportunities to experience the region through community tours, helping them make informed decisions about building their future locally.
“Addressing health human resource needs requires a shared commitment and a collective approach,” said Diane Plourde, Executive Transformation Lead, Great River Ontario Health Team. “This project is a great example of what can be achieved when partners across the Great River Ontario Health Team come together with a common vision, to strengthen access to care for the entire community we serve. By working collaboratively, sharing opportunities, and looking beyond individual organizational needs, our partners are helping to build a more connected, sustainable healthcare workforce across the region.”
Through its leadership role, SDG Counties is helping to bring partners together, strengthen regional collaboration and ensure the successful delivery of this important initiative. The Great River, Great Future campaign reflects a shared commitment to building a resilient healthcare workforce and improving access to care for communities across the region.
