SDG COUNTIES, Ontario - The United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry is pleased to announce the appointment of Jamie Fawthrop, as the organization’s next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective June 1, 2026. Fawthrop joins SDG Counties with 15 years of progressive municipal leadership experience in eastern Ontario, including recent service as CAO for the Township of South Glengarry.
A professional engineer and Queen’s University graduate, Fawthrop has held senior roles with the City of Cornwall and has overseen major municipal portfolios including planning, economic development, recreation, facilities, and infrastructure. His career highlights include leading the development of strategic plans, overseeing major capital projects, and strengthening relationships with regional partners.
Fawthrop said he is eager to begin working with SDG Counties Council, staff, and community stakeholders.
“I am honoured to join SDG Counties and excited for the opportunity to serve this dynamic and growing region,” said Fawthrop. “I look forward to collaborating with Council and our dedicated staff as we build on SDG Counties’ strong momentum and plan for a bright, sustainable future.”
SDG Counties Warden François Landry welcomed the appointment.
“Jamie brings a wealth of municipal knowledge, proven leadership, and a deep understanding of our region,” said Landry. “Council is pleased to welcome him aboard, and we are confident he will serve our communities with integrity, innovation, and a commitment to excellence.”
The Township of South Glengarry will immediately initiate a comprehensive recruitment process to fill the vacant CAO role.
“On behalf of South Glengarry Council, I'd like to thank our outgoing CAO Jamie Fawthrop for his commitment to our people and our community," said South Glengarry Mayor Lachlan McDonald. "He fit our culture well with his hard work, character, and kindness. I'm sure that everything that we appreciated about him will lead to great success at the SDG Counties where he will assume their CAO position. Again, to Jamie, thank you for being part of our proud South Glengarry tradition.”
Fawthrop’s hiring fills a vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of current SDG Counties CAO Maureen Adams.
