Modest population spike for SDG Counties

SDG COUNTIES, Ontario - Statistics Canada has issued its population estimates, by census division, that indicate a modest population increase for our region.

Between the years of 2020 and 2025 SDG Counties' population increased by 3,559 individuals, to a total of 72,324. In fact, our entire region, including the City of Cornwall, has seen a population spike.

Statistics Canada estimates Cornwall's population to be 54,346 in 2025, representing a change in population of 10.02 per cent from 2020 to 2025.  The Ontario portion of Akwesasne is estimated at 1,947.  

In all, the combined Cornwall, SDG Counties and Akwesasne population is estimated to be 128,617 - a growth of 7.15 per cent from 2020 to 2025. 

"SDG Counties Council has made partnerships and collaboration a key component of this term's strategic plan," said SDG Counties Warden Frank Landry. "The results of our hard work with respect to economic development, community planning and infrastructure development, in concert with our strategic partners, has resulted in an influx of residents. We couldn't be prouder."
