
SDG COUNTIES, Ontario - SDG Counties and its local townships attended the 2025 AMO Conference, held in Ottawa on Aug. 17–20.
The conference provided opportunities for elected officials and staff to attend sessions, network with peers and meet with provincial ministries and organizations. Warden Martin Lang participated in several meetings with SDG Counties staff, local municipalities, as well as with the Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus.

Ministry of Transportation – Ric Breese, Parliamentary Assistant
- Joint delegation with the City of Cornwall to discuss the need for regional transportation that would connect our residents with routes between Cornwall and Ottawa. The delegation was led by Mayor Towndale.
- Joint delegation with the Township of North Dundas to discuss Liscomb Road and the need to reconstruct the road to meet the needs for the commercial truck traffic to access the Lactalis manufacturing facility. This delegation was led by Mayor Fraser and Deputy Mayor Bergeron. Participants included a representative from Lactalis as well as staff from the township.
- Joint delegation with the Township of North Stormont to discuss the planning for the Highway 138 safety improvements. This is follow-up with the Ministry to ensure there is thorough review of additional intersections as well as the commitments on the timing of construction and completion. This delegation was led by Mayor Francois Landry and included Deputy Mayor Steve Densham, Mayor Bryan McGillis, MPP Nolan Quinn and staff from both townships.

Ministry of Long-Term Care – Minister Natalia Kusendova-Bashta
- Warden Lang, Mayor Tony Fraser, Mayor Jamie MacDonald and Mayor Jason Broad met with the Minister to highlight the financial challenges facing the non-profit long-term care sector. Both the Maxville Manor and the Dundas Manor were discussed and the importance of SDG’s financial contributions and financing guarantees to ensure the redevelopment projects are completed. These long-term care homes are critical in our rural communities to allow our residents to remain close to family and friends.

Ministry of Finance – Dave Smith, Parliamentary Assistant
- This was a joint delegation with the Township of North Glengarry. The delegation was led by Warden Lang and also included Mayor MacDonald and Deputy Mayor Williams as well as Mayor Broad. We emphasized the importance of current market values for property assessments from the 2016 values to ensure fairness and equity among property classes and owners.

Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services
- The delegation was led by Mayor Tony Fraser and Deputy Mayor Carma Williams. We emphasized the need for more wrap around support for those that are struggling with housing and basic needs. We emphasized the importance of collaboration between ministries to help streamline resources for better service delivery and the need for enhanced community support.
Ontario Medical Association
- This was a joint delegation with the City of Cornwall. The delegation was led by Mayor Towndale and included Councillor Sarah Good and Warden Lang. Mayor Towndale highlighted the need for creative strategies to recruitment of medical professionals to our region.
Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus
Warden Lang also participated in meetings with the Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus which included:

- Federation of Canadian Municipalities
