$2.3M investment to improve recreation infrastructure in Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry

THE COUNTIES, Ontario - Jim McDonell, Member of Provincial Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry has announced that the Government of Ontario is investing more than $2.3 million in six local recreational infrastructure projects through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

“As the weather begins to get warmer, the need for sport and recreational infrastructure becomes even greater as it provides members of the community an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle,” said McDonell. “That’s why our government’s investment into local community, culture and recreation infrastructure projects like sport arenas and play structures could not have come at a better time.”

The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program is a cost-shared, application-based infrastructure funding opportunity. Contributions to this project are as follows:

North Dundas - Development of Hallville Community Park: $1,091,477 (federal funding), $909,473 (provincial funding), $727,742 (recipient/other funding)

North Glengarry – Refurbishment of the Glengarry Sports Palace: $863,550 (federal), $719,553 (provincial), $575,772 (other)

South Glengarry – Char-Lan Recreation Centre Ice Pad Replacement: $560,000 (federal), $466,620 (provincial), $373,380 (other)

South Stormont – Community Parks Pavilion Projects: $116,600 (federal), $97,157 (provincial), $77,743 (other)

South Stormont – Two play structure upgrades: $62,100 (federal), $51,745 (provincial), $41,405 (other)

Cornwall – Community Hub Centre, Charles Emile-Claude: $166,800 (federal), $138,986 (provincial), $104,205 (other)

“All of these local infrastructure projects support families and communities as Ontario continues to protect people’s health and economy. Getting shovels in the ground will positively impact the lives and well-being of every resident in each of these towns for years to come,” said Laurie Scott, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure.
