2023 Highway 138 repaving work explained

Highway 138 will be paved from Cornwall to Monkland.

THE COUNTIES, Ontario - The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) is completing the detail design for the resurfacing of Highway 138.

Next year 17.4km of Highway 138, stretching from Cornwall Centre Road to 200m south of the County Road 43 exit at Monkland, will be repaved.

The proposed work, which will be completed by MTO, includes:

  • Resurfacing all Highway 138 lanes from Cornwall Centre Road to 200m south of County Road 43, Monkland;
  • Six culvert replacements;
  • East ditch realignment south of Marlyn Street;
  • Ditch cleanout in various locations;
  • Intersection visibility improvements, and;
  • Sidewalk and curb modifications, crosswalk reconfiguration, and minor electrical upgrades at the County Road 18/Dundas Road intersection

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2023 and is subject to provincial priorities and funding, and environmental approvals.

Full closures of Highway 138 are not expected, however, motorists can expect temporary traffic delays due to lane reductions. Traffic will be controlled by flagging operations during lane closures. Weekend closures are not expected for this project.
