SDG Reads Meet the Author Event

SDG Reads – Meet the Author Event
October 8, 2015

The SD&G County Library welcomed Scotiabank Giller Prize-winning author Elizabeth Hay this past Thursday (October 8) to the final event of the 2015 ‘SDG Reads’ program. Ms. Hay’s novel, Alone in the Classroom, was selected as the title for this year’s community reading program, and participants had a chance to meet the author at this wrap-up event, held at North Stormont Place in Avonmore.

Over 70 people attended to hear Ms. Hay read from her novel, ask questions about her writing process and have books signed. As well, participants enjoyed snacks in the theme of the book while solving six “mystery” vignettes depicting characters from the book.
“We are so pleased that Elizabeth Hay agreed to be a part of our ‘SDG Reads’ program this year and we wanted to put together an event that would celebrate both her novel and the community reading experience”, said Karen Franklin, Director of Library Services. “This event has been very successful in bringing together community members in their shared love of reading.”

Almost 400 copies of Alone in the Classroom were borrowed from the Library in connection with the program, which ran from May until October. Library staff were pleased with the community response and are excited to bring ‘SDG Reads’ back in 2016.
